Emergency Wildfire Supply Kit Checklist

Wildfire season is usually between May and October. That is a big chunk of the year, so it is important to be prepared at all times, especially as the effects of climate change increases the number and intensity of wildfires each year.

Here are 7 Wildfire Preparation Tips from ReadyForWildfire.org:

  1. Put together your emergency supply kit long before a wildfire or other disaster occurs and keep it easily accessible so you can take it with you when you have to evacuate.

  2. Plan to be away from your home for an extended period of time.

  3. Each person should have a readily accessible emergency supply kit.

  4. Backpacks work great for storing these items (except food and water) and are quick to grab.

  5. Storing food and water in a tub or chest on wheels will make it easier to transport.

  6. Keep it light enough to be able to lift it into your car.

  7. Ensure you plan with COVID-19 in mind.

  8. See below for bonus tip!*

*Bonus tip: “Keep your car ready for a QUICK exit COMPLETELY out of your town, ie, gas lines will be long, traffic may be slow; thus, you will need to have your car already filled with gas, or at least 3/4 of a tank full.” - Beverly Q. via our Instagram
