Altadena has long been a refuge for Black and Latino families, providing a safe space from systemic housing discrimination in Los Angeles. In the mid-20th century, it became one of the few neighborhoods where these communities could own property, build generational wealth, and create a thriving cultural hub.
The Eaton Fire has devastated this historic and cherished neighborhood, displacing countless middle and working class families and destroying homes that carried decades of memories and heritage.
